Chapter 5. Juicy Secrets

Linda’s sweet voice and gentle manner of speaking is a technique she uses to make older male managers trust her and to manipulate them. Linda feared more than anything that her true nature would be exposed one day. Linda had been aware of her own evil-tainted nature since childhood and took great care to hide it. The urge of hiding mischievings would be normal for kids but in Linda’s case, it was a bit more. As a child, she knew that her soul was so dark beyond her parents’ imagination, and felt instinctively her cruel inclination should be kept behind her innocent smiles. Women were sometimes quick to see through Linda’s true nature and gave doubtful looks at Linda’s face. Men were duller in this respect. Linda’s father would forgive her if she made excuses in a sweet voice while crying and pretending to be in a serious manner, no matter how bad she was exposed. Of course, her excuses were completely spurious with flaws, and apologies were without any heart. It was important to make people believe that she was a good girl to arouse their sympathy. Linda knew she had a talent for deception. The most important thing was to keep playing Linda’s favorite game – the hunting game. Linda had no conscience or guilty feeling in bullying people; she simply enjoyed it. Remorse was something simply impossible for Linda. At the same time, the feeling of winning and punishing the others was Linda’s mental candy all-into-one. Linda might be a so-called “psychopath.’ In any case it was better to keep the secret of this special treat hidden in shadow.

Linda’s company was heaven for her. Despite being a large international company, thanks to the fact Ben, the CEO, was German and he brought his personal friends to the company, the management team in the European office was dominated by Germans. The solidarity among Germans was especially strong, and most of the important positions were held by Germans. German-speaking was a big asset for networking in the company. Furthermore, to make Linda’s survival easier, there was a whiff of corruption everywhere, thanks to the CEO’s longstanding position in the company and lack of controlling mechanism. Money, Love Affairs, Parties. Linda heard all kinds of dodgy stories about the CEO and their friends, working in HR. 

“Wow, again, Ben made a move on a young blonde female employee.” After offering her a position in the U.S. and enjoying affairs for a year, she should move to another country with a good position. Sexual relationships were to be paid with career progression. There are dozens of them and maybe hundreds. “What a big playboy with such an ugly face,” Linda laughed. Most of the managers in the company were aware of that but they were too afraid to open their mouths as they were in the company. Of course, Linda, putting on an auspicious face, would execute such personnel decisions given by Ben and Rachel, pretending to know nothing about it. No questions should be asked, and business should be run as usual. But Linda might well use such a juicy secret for Linda’s own advantage; Ben and Rachel never dreamed of that possibility at that time. They were totally fooled by Linda’s surface.

Linda’s direct boss, Rachel, the Global Head of HR, was also one of Ben’s mistresses. Rachel was a typical empty-headed blonde, who started her career at the top of high-school hierarchy in the US as a cheer-leader. Being sharp in sensing interests, Rachel made her big promotion by not turning down an approach from the ugly boss and to perform some private favors for him. She was also given the position of Head of IT Department in the company, after performing private duties to Ben and going an extra mile in a hotel suite room. Of course, that was also a sign of appreciation for Rachel’s hard work to wipe the CEO’s stinking ass so that he wouldn’t smell officially bad inside and outside the company. Whenever Ben had affairs with a female employee in the company, Rachel would clean it up and keep the girl silent with good HR treatment. After completing duties to Ben, each woman was given a “reward” – a decent position in the company so that the matter wouldn’t get exposed by a lawsuit. Rachel, as the Head of Ben’s Personal Affairs with Women, made sure that their sex work was treated decently. She was literally the Head of the Women’s Club – for the CEO personally.

Rachel’s relationship with the CEO and the behind-the-scenes HR work was an open secret, but everyone, including Linda’s HR colleagues, turned a blind eye. No one questioned the apparently ridiculous dual appointment of HR and IT departments. It was amazing how obedient people could be, when they were facing power to Linda’s amusement. In any case, working in HR at a company where corruption was rampant was a paradise for Linda. It was the perfect ecosystem for a psychopath like Linda to find sweet victims and execute them, luring them into dark corners. Luckily Linda belonged to the ruling class of the German, she had access to all sorts of secret information and was entitled to suppress inconvenient facts, using her networking and influence. When the CEO could use the company for a sort of buying prostitutes without being accused of sexual harassment or breaching human rights, Linda should be entitled to everything she wanted. As long as Linda could get away with her crimes, it would be all Okay.

Before Linda became the European head of human resources, Tuuli, a Finnish woman, was the head of human resources. Mark, a young German general manager of Europe at the time, who was even considered to be the next CEO, was a big hope. Linda was depicting herself as being promoted and making a big career with this German guy. For sure, Mark would need a younger German woman like Linda to handle the entire HR department. Linda was excited with the whole new prospect. However, betraying Linda’s expectation, Mark promoted Tuuli, a Finnish HR professional hired recently from outside. At that time, Linda was in the process of advancing her career as the HR lead for Eastern Europe. She had been hoping that she would get a big opposition in the main European Region and approached Mark, pulling the German connection. Yet, he chose Tuuli, who had experience as the head of HR in a large German company, to report directly to him. Linda was heart-broken and couldn’t believe it.”Why? Is it because Tuuli has a longer experience in HR than I do? Has she got a great experience in a well-know company? Because she speaks Finnish, German and English? It’s all nonsense; you disqualified me, forgetting the bond of German, the core of our heart.” Linda was seized with rage to Mark, even though her anger was totally irrational. The career level of Tuuli was not comparable to Linda’s. “Do you say, I should continue this miserable journey in the shady side of the world? As long as Mark and Tuuli are there, I will never blossom as an executive. Would I have to wait for ten or twenty years? No way. I can’t wait that long and I need to blossom in this company, which is a perfect fit for me. I need to break the deadlock somehow.” After a while, she looked up and grinned darkly. She found a way to make it work. As was with other cases, the feeling of being offended was the trigger for Linda to perform her wild trick.
